Research Topics
For sustainable support of current and near-future socioeconomic activities, it is necessary to enhance the real and digital infrastructures of cities and national lands as robust systems. Therefore, aiming at the clarification of the structure by scientific insight and the creation of scientific evidence to derive solutions to the complex problems that cities and national lands are facing, I am engaged in research on the themes of urban and national land planning and infrastructure development, urban revitalization and preservation, urban resilience", and the utilization of geospatial information and digital urban infrastructures. Based on interdisciplinary thinking and an international perspective, practical and empirical research is being undertaken.

Advanced approach of the geo-sequestration of energy byproducts
While considering performance of radioactive waste disposal system and CO2 Geo sequestration, it is necessary to examine hydraulic properties of rocks near the facility in detail, because thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical (THMC) processes may be active under such conditions. In this laboratory, a long-term rock permeability change is predicted by developing a THMC numerical model that considers pressure dissolution at grain contacts in the rock. Then, the influence of pressure dissolution is examined by comparing calculation results with and without pressure dissolution.

Mechanical and Hydro-mechanical behaviors of fractured rock masses
In considering the excavation of tunnel and underground cavern, stability of rock foundation and slope, the mechanical and hydro-mechanical behaviors of rock masses are clarified.
The mechanical and hydro-mechanical behaviors of rock masses are strongly affected by the mechanical and the hydro-mechanical properties of joints/fractures. In this laboratory, the fundamental laboratory experiments such as direct shear test and triaxial test are carried out and the constitutive model are estimated.

Design, construction, and maintenance of geo-infrastructures and rock infrastructures
The effective design, safety construction, and smart maintenance of geo-infrastructures and rock infrastructures are studied here. For examples, when shallow overburden tunnel is to be excavated in an urban area, the auxiliary method that will be applied should be considered. When an area is to be excavated in deep underground, seepage and the huge earth pressure that will be encountered should be considered. For slope stability, the remote sensing system that actively uses InSAR and ICT is introduced.
Clarification of seismic performance of reinforced earth wall and precast arch culvert
In order to realize the labor saving of the earthworks, the reinforced earth wall and the precast arch culvert have been positively applied in the domestic road structures. Through the dynamic centrifuge tests and the numerical analyses, these unknown seismic behaviors due to dynamic soil structure interaction are being investigated. Based on these approaches, we aim to clarify the seismic performance.
