Special Measures for Response to COVID-19 (Updated on: December 20, 2022)

Due to social conditions caused by the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the entrance examination (winter AY2022) for the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and the Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering, will be conducted ONLINE, instead of face-to-face. Applicants do not have to come to the Katsura campus on the exam days.
Detailed information will be notified to each applicant from February 1st.

Information of Entrance Examination conducted in Winter

Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering, hold a joint entrance examination for Master's Program and Doctoral Program.

Applicants can download the Guidelines for Applicants to the 2023 Master's Program and Doctoral  Program and "Details of Entrance Examinations" of Division of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering/Urban Management. The information below are outlines of the Admission Guides for reference purposes only and are subject to change without notice; be sure to confirm the details in the Admission Guidelines and "Details of Entrance Examination".

Applicants should contact supervising professors of preferred classifications and discuss application.

For the Master's and Doctoral Program entrance examinations, applicants will have to take the examinations, which will be held in the Katsura Campus.

Master's Program

  1. Examination Type
    International Applicants

  2. Examination Schedule
    February 13 (Monday) or 14 (Tuesday), 2023.
  3. Course Program Selection
    As in the below there are five course programs that you can pursue upon entering the Master's Program:
    (1) Master's Program,
    (2) Master's Program, International Course,
    (3) Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program, Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Applied Mechanics,
    (4) Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program, Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Human Security Engineering, and
    (5) Advanced Engineering Course Program.
    The program will be determined by our specific procedure using the statement of course selection and results of the entrance examination.

Doctoral Program

  1. Examination Type
    1) 2023 Doctoral Program (Second Recruitment, April 2023 Admission)
    (1) Ordinary examination, (2) Special examination for full-time workers, (3) Special examination for PhD thesis draft, and (4) Special examination for foreign applicants on the Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program of the Human Security Engineering. See the guidelines and "Details of Entrace Examination" for the details.

    2) 2023 Doctoral Program (October 2023 Admission)
    (1) Special examination for foreign applicants on the Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program of the Human Security Engineering. See the guidelines and "Details of Entrance Examination" for the details.

  3. Program Selection
    Two programs have been prepared for those who enroll in the Doctoral Program. Programs available for enrollment by those who pass the entrance examination for the examination category Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering or Department of Urban Management are as follows.
    • Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program
      (Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Evolutionarily Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering / Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Applied Mechanics / Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Human Security Engineering)
    • Advanced Engineering Course Program
      (Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering or Department of Urban Management)
